Some Creepy Graves from Greyfriars Kirkyard, Edinburgh

If you like spooky, atmospheric graveyards and ever find yourself in Edinburgh, Scotland, then Greyfriars Kirkyard is a must see. (It also has several Harry Potter connections, featured in thisĀ post.)

The spooky ambience is enhanced by piles of damp dead leaves in the middle of summer, a disproportionate number of flies buzzing around, and Scottish cats thatĀ make themselves very much at home.

Here are just a handful of the creepier graves to be found:

This guy, who looks like a zombie Ben Franklin with his nose missing.

This headless statue.

And this other headless statue, who is casually stepping on a skull while … checking her cell phone?

This skeleton king.

09 Another Skeleton King

And this other skeleton king, who is making the statue above him scream out in terror.

There are plenty more where these came from. If you are visiting Edinburgh and like this sort of thing, make sure to stop by. The kirkyard is associated with Greyfriars Tolbooth and Highland Kirk on Candlemaker Row, and their website contains information on opening hours.
